Route - Ceronda Ring (AC)

Route description

ANELLO CERONDA (AC) excursion and cycle excursion itinerary is so called because it develops in an annular shape extending for the most part into the valley of the Ceronda stream.

The route is characterized by two sections with different characteristics: a mountainous and panoramic part, which extends on the slopes of Ultrabasic Lanzo Massif, and at the foot of pre-Alpine mountain group, an almost flat part that runs along the protected area of La Mandria Regional Park. In both sections of the route there are prestigious environmental contexts, some sections of the path offer a boundless panorama of Turin and the Po valley. Along the ancient mule tracks and rural roads you cross the inhabited centers, the agricultural areas and the historical and cultural heritage of the municipalities of Bassa Valle.

Starting from Balangero and initially reaching Ponte del Diavolo Park in Lanzo, the route first develops on the mountain part with a series of climbs and descents that cross the mountain group until reaching the highest altitudes in Colle del Lys area. Once you reach the slopes overlooking Susa Valley, the route begins to lower in altitude to finally find the return stages that extend into the flat agricultural belt that surrounds La Mandria Park until you reach Stura di Lanzo and close the ring again at Ponte del Diavolo.

The route can be used entirely as a simple level excursion, even if some stages are challenging in terms of length and, in the height of summer, the high temperatures and southern exposure can significantly increase fatigue. Thanks to some variants that avoid the purely hiking sections, the route is entirely accessible by mountain bike.

Due to the proximity to the inhabited centers for all the stages, the stopping places are made up of small tourist and agritourism structures typical of the villages that meet and, to a minimum, of mountain refuges.

The routes take place on a path or on suitably signposted tracks and mostly on rural dirt roads and forest tracks. All these tracks can be traveled without the need for equipment all year round, only in case of heavy snow the sections above 1000 m require the use of snowshoes. The length of some stages, both hiking and cycling, require good training. Being a circular route, it is possible to access it from any point and proceed in both directions. The itinerary offers the possibility of varying the route by joining the starting point of Lanzo with the Trek Calcante which can become an alternative extension, towards the areas of the Middle and Upper Valley.

Main attack: From the Municipality of Balangero take the cycle path that leads from near the station to Lanzo, alternatively directly from Lanzo Torinese from the entrance to Ponte del Diavolo Park. Both points are easily reachable both by public transport at the two railway stations, and by car from the SP 2. Intermediate connections: the route crosses or skims towns and villages of the Municipalities of Germagnano, Cafasse, Vallo Torinese, Varisella, Fiano, La Cassa, Givoletto, Val Della Torre, Viù, Rubiana. From all these points, at the hiker's discretion, by consulting the map, it is possible to find easy connections from which to undertake the itinerary from the intermediate stages.
