The heroic vineyards of Nebbiolo
Description of the activity / service
An excursion to discover an area where the works of art are the “heroic” terraces built by man and dedicated to the cultivation and culture of the vine.
Once in Loc. Maletto, for those who wish, it will be possible to make a food and wine stop at the Locanda il Maletto.
The route proposed here has a good difference in height, therefore it requires a good propensity for climbing and walking in the mountains but offers passages through an often ignored territory, rich in history, culture and food and wine.
Leaving the car in the Municipality of Carema, 326m., We will climb first through the narrow paths that characterize the town and then along the historic mule tracks until we reach Maletto, 1326 m. Along the climb, along a nice stretch of the GTA (Great Crossing of the Alps), we will be able to closely observe the terraces, called “heroic vineyards”, planted with vines, mainly Nebbiolo, and olive trees.
When we arrive at Maletto where we will stop for lunch, we will move to the other side of the Chiussuma stream, near the Trovinasse locality, in the Municipality of Settimo Vittone, to begin the descent towards the valley floor, always along suggestive mule tracks.
Arrived near the hamlet of Airale, a last spectacular climb to the ruins of the Castruzzone Fortress, will allow us to return to the territory of the Municipality of Carema and quickly reach the cars.
